For over 55 years, our strength has been reliability.

About us

For over 55 years, power and precision in metal recycling.
Founded in 1969 by Luigi and Olivo Tabarelli as an extension of the historic Tabarelli S.p.A., Idromec designs and manufactures shear balers and metal balers for scrap recycling.
Each machine is the result of a proprietary project, with components entirely produced in our Italian facilities, following the highest quality standards and patented technologies.
With more than 3,000 installations and a consolidated presence in over 30 countries, Idromec is today an international benchmark for industrial recycling and demolition operations.
Our strength lies in blending Italian engineering excellence with practical, adaptable, and durable solutions.

Idromec workshop in 1969, early in-house production of scrap balers founded by the Tabarelli brothers

1969

Idromec spa was founded in 1969 by Luigi and Olivo Tabarelli as an extension of the Tabarelli spa firm’s business to handle design and construction of balers for scrap iron processing.
In the early stages the production consisted in sub-ground balers, which were built in-house in all their parts, machined, tested and shipped ready for final installation.

1975

In July 1975 the first lid’s box baler was built and subsequently patented. This innovative system is still today acknowledged to be the best system of material compaction, combining a large volume of loaded scrap with a 2-moves simple and effective compression. In the same year lid’s box was fitted with the first 350-ton shearing head. In this way the same machine could be used to pack or shear the material, at the operator’s discretion. The guillotine shearing head was also made with an innovative system: a strong lower body onto which the guillotine-shearing cylinder unit was inserted.

1985

A strategic milestone marking the beginning of overseas expansion.
The first Idromec baler installed in the United States confirmed the technical reliability of our products and opened new opportunities in the North American market.
From that moment on, international presence became one of the pillars of the company’s growth, strengthening partnerships and global references.

2000

In parallel with structural development, plant engineering was also tackled, using more and more advanced components (variable displacement pumps, control valves blocks, built to specification) and afterwards with the PLC in place of the traditional electric controls.

Idromec HQ upgraded in the 2000s with variable-flow pumps, custom distributors, and advanced PLC systems

Vision

Solutions built to last.
Idromec’s vision is to deliver machines that are increasingly robust, versatile, and designed to operate in real-world conditions.
From the historic curved-box press to trailer-mounted mobile units, from waste balers to dual- and three-compression models, every solution is engineered to meet the specific needs of those who work every day with complex materials and high volumes.
The goal is to transform customer requirements into reliable, efficient, and easy-to-maintain technologies. This is why we develop configurations that combine ease of use, operational safety, and high performance.
Over the years, this philosophy has driven a continuous expansion of our product range: presses with curved or L-shaped compression boxes, side-squeeze box, mobile machines on trailer, 3-lids boxes, 3-ram balers, dual-compression balers, balers for municipal solid waste, and special custom-built solutions.

Mission

Designing value that lasts.
We build balers and shear balers that ensure high performance, continuous operation, and fast, effective support.
Each machine is developed with a clear purpose: to maximise production efficiency, simplify plant management, and minimise downtime.
Our mission is to deliver practical solutions that improve the daily work of scrap dealers, recycling facilities, and industry operators in Italy and worldwide.

Since 1969, one single goal

improving the work of those who process metal every day.
With passion, precision, and technical vision.
